COLOMBO : Lanka E. Doc and Apollo Hospitals Group-India announced the first of its kind Scoliosis awareness program along with a Walkathon on the 2nd of March 2024. The announcement was made by Niluka Welikala, Director of Lanka E.Doc and Chairperson of Serendib Group. Speaking about it, Dr. Niluka stated that for a country like Sri Lanka, the incidence of scoliosis, a disease that affects the spine is quite high and this affects especially the girl children in adolescent age groups. I am really happy to bring forth Asia’s most advanced Spine Team headed by Dr.Sajan K Hegde, Senior Consultant Spine Surgeon Dr Appaji Krishnan and Dr Vignesh from Afro-Asia’s most advanced Spine Unit, the Apollo Institute of Spine Surgery. This unit has handled the largest number of complex spines surgeries and scoliosis corrections in Afro-Asia and has pioneered procedures like robotic spine surgery, fusion less spine surgery etc. We at Lanka E-doc are enabling clinical collaboration of Apollo’s spine unit with their Sri Lankan counterparts to ensure that we can work on prevention and curative care for our children. The walkathon supported by Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education echoes the commitment of everyone for this noble cause. We also solicit the support of media to make this a successful awareness program, remarked Dr Niluka. The walkathon will start from Independence Square at 7.00 am on 2nd of March 2024 and post the walkathon, there will be a presentation on Scoliosis care by Dr.Sajan K Hegde. The Walkathon will also have dignitaries like Minister for Health, Minister for Education, State Minister for Health, State Minister for Transport, Dr.Niluka Welikala Chairperson, Serendib Group, Susanthika Jayasinghe Asian Olympic Gold Medlest, The Apollo team will have Mr.Jithu Jose, Vice President- International Division.
