COLOMBO : Sri Lankan Hajj delegation headed by Environment Minister Hafiz Naseer Ahamed left for Jeddah in the early hours of Sunday morning on July 3.
According to the director of Muslim,Religious and Cultural Affair Ibrahim Sahib Ansar, the other two members of the delegation include Marjan Faleel MP and Ahkam Uwais, chairman of the Sri Lanka Hajj Committee.
Speaking to Colombo Times, Minister Ahamed said the Muslim community is thankful to government and the concerned minister Vidura Wickremanayake for their support and assistance to make this year’s pilgrimage a reality during the current economic crisis Sri Lanka is facing.
Thanking the Saudi government for the great services rendered during the Hajj season for the millions of pilgrims who visit the two holy cities every year.
Sri Lankan ambassador Packeer Amsa and his Consul General Falah Mowlana will be at the airport to receive the official Hajj delegation .
Meanwhile the meeting between Minister Naseer Ahamed, special envoy of President Gotabaya Raajapaksa and Saudi Arabia leaders has been postponed due to intervention of the period of Hajj and the meetings will be rescheduled after July 17.
Saudi Ministry of foreign affairs have informed the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Saudi Arabia, Hassan Alaldeen Media Secretary To Hon Minister of Environment told Colombo Times.
