COLOMBO: The Moors Islamic Cultural Home organized a Kathamul Quran programme to commemorate the late Sir Razik Fareed’s 39th death anniversary on Wednesday Aug.23 in Colombo .
The holy Quran recitation was made at the grave yard of Sir Razik who founded the MICH at “ Pasha Villa “, Dematagoda, Colombo
The event was held under the patronage of the President of the MICH Omar Kamil who was the former Colombo Mayor and one-time Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Iran.
In his brief speech,Kamil described Sir Razik as a legend who rendered yeoman services to the nation as well as to the Muslim community.” He was the father of Muslim education who believed in imparting education to both boys and girls”,he said, recalling that he was the founder of Muslim Ladies College and his forefathers were responsible in setting up Zahira College,Colombo.
Moulavi Hafil A.W.M.Hadil and Moulavi Ahmed Sha conducted the prayers.
MICH President Omar Kamil, Colombo Times Chief Editor Mohamed Rasooldeen, MICH Joint Secretary Ashroff Jameel, Social and Recreational Committee Chairman Fareen Ghouse, Youth Affairs Chairman Marshad Barry, and Joint Treasurer Haniffa Ishaq were present at the event.
Meanwhile.extensive arrangements are being made by the “ Pirai TV “ to telecast a special programme on the late Sir Razik on Thursday August 24, at 5. 00 p.m. to mark his 39th death anniversary.
The Moors Islamic Cultural Home President and Former Ambassador of Iran and City Father Omar Kamil and Colombo Times Chief Editor and Arab News Colombo Correspondent Mohamed Rasooldeen will be participating in the programme in a panel discussion about life and services of Sir Razik Fareed. The Programme will moderated by Marshad Barry.
Head of Pirai TV Rizwan Junaid said the 30-minute programme will be telecast at 5. 00 pm through Youtube and FB on Thursday ,August 24
