” It is with a sense of immense pleasure and pride I send the greetings and good wishes to all my Muslim brethren in Sri Lanka and abroad on the dawn of the Islamic New Year.
Islamic New Year: The first day of the Hijri year is celebrated as a special and important occasion by the Muslim Ummah all over the world. The month of Muharram marks the beginning of a new Islamic year. It is believed that it was the day when Prophet Muhammad moved from Mecca to Medina, leading his people. His pilgrimage is called Hijra. Muslims around the world are celebrating Hijri New Year. Islamic New Year is also known as Arabic New Year.
Let us lift our hands in prayers to Allah for His choicest blessings to be showered upon people of all faiths to enable them to carry out their daily obligations with peace, prosperity and happiness.”
