The month of Muharram marks the beginning of a new Islamic year. It is believed that it was the day when Prophet Muhammad moved from Mecca to Medina, leading his people. His pilgrimage is called Hijra. Muslims around the world are celebrating Hijri New Year. Islamic New Year is also known as Arabic New Year.
