Today marks the 54th Anniversary of the great Independence and National Day of Bangladesh. On this auspicious occasion, I would like to extend the warm greetings and felicitations to the people of Sri Lanka from the people of Bangladesh. I would also like to convey our appreciation for the friendliness and good wishes extended to us throughout the history of our relations.
We remember with profound reverence the freedom fighters and martyrs of the glorious War of Liberation in 1971. Their supreme sacrifice will always remain as the beacon of hope and inspiration during our fight against any kind of oppression against humanity anywhere in the world.
Bangladesh-Sri Lanka relationship has been based on our common historical legacy, cultural similarities, shared values, identical aspirations, and similar nature of challenges. Sri Lanka recognised Bangladesh shortly after its independence and the friendly relationship between these two maritime neighbours has been all about goodwill and close cooperation since then. We both have been assisting each other in times of need and stood together for our common goals in bilateral and multilateral fora.
We are very happy to see the continuous peace, prosperity, and progress of Sri Lanka and always stand ready to strive for achieving greater success through our collaborative efforts. Sri Lankan business community has been in good terms with the business community of Bangladesh through their common interests and investments and it continues to grow. Bangladesh is hosting a good number of Sri Lankan expatriates who are contributing to the economies of both the countries.
Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have common positions, and join forces to fight against common challenges such as climate change, human trafficking, and terrorism. Our mutual support in regional and international platforms like IORA, BIMSTEC, and SAARC help in achieving the objectives of these organisations.
I would like to express my satisfaction and happiness to be a part of this friendship. I believe, we still have a lot to achieve together. I look forward to even stronger ties between the peoples of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the coming days, months, and years.
May Bangladesh-Sri Lanka friendship live forever!
