COLOMBO; Senior past president of the All-Ceylon YMMA Conference, Melbourne-based Jiffry Haniffa was honoured for his 50 years of services with a platinum award at 75th Annual Convention of the All-Ceylon YMMA Conference held under the patronage of the Prime Minister Dr .Harini Amarasuriya at the Cinnamon Life Hotel in Colombo on Monday, Oct.20.
The awards were presented by the premier as well as by the Deputy Speaker Dr Rizwi Salih at the awards ceremony.
Haniffa’s association with the YMMA began in 1965 when he was an 11-year-old junior member of the Colombo Central YMMA Branch,where he actively participated in sports and indoor games. His early commitment led to election to the Executive Committee in 1974 and appointment as Assistant Treasurer in 1976 prior to a period of employment overseas in Kuwait.
Over subsequent years, Haniffa served the organisation in a number of senior positions such as Assistant Secretary, Vice President, National General Secretary and eventually it’s National President.
Key contributions include coordination of the Canadian Goat Farm Project and chairmanship of the Bammanna Training Centre. During his tenure in national office the organisation secured the Pakistan computer centre.
During the past 18 years, being in Melbourne, Haniff was responsible in funding various projects of the YMMA. He has been continuously supporting its Dry Rations Project which had benefited a large number of deserving families in Sri Lanka.
