COLOMBO : Commemorating 1,500 Years of the Prophet’s Birth: A Message of Compassion, Respect, and Unity
This year marks the 1,500th anniversary of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). On this occasion, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation(OIC) in its 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers held under the theme “The OIC in a Transforming World” on 21–22 June 2025, adopted a resolution calling for the year 1447 AH to be commemorated across all Islamic countries.
The Prophet of Islam was a model of kindness and compassion. He respected the followers of all religions and regarded doing good to fellow human beings as the best form of worship before God.
Islam is a religion of kindness, forgiveness, compassion, and mercy. Every chapter of the Holy Qur’an begins with the attribute of God’s mercy, and the phrase most frequently repeated in the Qur’an is “In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.”
Friendship with fellow human beings, sharing in their joys and sorrows, striving to solve one another’s problems, maintaining hope for the future, and showing cheerfulness and good character were among the Prophet’s strong recommendations.
Even before his Prophethood, he was known among the people for his noble qualities, including trustworthiness.
As Muslims and followers of the Prophet, we must strive to adhere the teachings of Islam and the Qur’an, and to be good representatives of Islam and the Holy Prophet.
In Iran, as one of the largest Islamic countries, Muslims have for centuries coexisted peacefully with fellow citizens of other faiths—including Christians and Armenians, Jews, and Zoroastrians—in an atmosphere of mutual respect for each other’s beliefs, enjoying life together in harmony.
We should treat everyone with kindness, consider the sorrow of others as our own, wish for others what we wish for ourselves, and be certain that the greatest wealth lies in helping others.
