COLOMBO: A man who was swimming in the seas off Dehiwala has died following an attack by a crocodile, said Sri Lanka Police.
Dr. Rukshan Bellana, the Director of the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital said that the deceased was identified as a 57-year-old male, Jayantha Peiris.
Colombo Times learnt the deceased is survived by three children and wife.
Police said the incident took place when the crocodile attempted to draw away the man who was swimming in the sea.
Onlooker,said that this is a dangerous trend and the marine conservation department has to take immediate action since the beach is patronized by a large number of people who come to there for a sea bath with their families.
