DUBAI : The expatriate community along with the Consulate General office of Sri Lanka & Northern Emirates in Dubai organised a gathering for Iftar & Dinner on Tuesday, 28th of March 2023.
The event, which was held at the Consulate premises, was attended by a large number of Sri Lankans representing a cross-section of people from social, religious as well as the business community.
The event was a resounding success, with attendees enjoying an evening amongst the fellow countrymen with a blend of Sri Lanka and the UAE.
“We are thrilled with the outcome of the Iftar,” said Nalinda Wijerathne Honourable Consular general of Sri Lanka for Dubai & Northern Emirates. It was a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our appreciation to fellow Sri Lankans and to connect with our community in a meaningful way. We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout, and we’re already looking forward to next year’s event.”
It was a brief event which commenced at 6 PM and ended at 8 PM that included Iftar, prayers and dinner. Muhammed Riza made the welcome speech, on behalf of the community followed by the speech of the Honourable Consular General who reiterated the need for community gatherings such as this, while Isthiaq Razzak took on the role of the Master of ceremonies.
“We’re grateful to our community members, partners, and especially the volunteers for helping to make the Iftar event, such a success,” said Riza. “Their support was crucial in making this event happen, and we couldn’t have done it without them. It was great to see the interaction and enjoyment between fellow countrymen”
Although, this has traditionally been an annual Ifthar event in Dubai, this is the 1st occasion of such a gathering following 2 years of the COVID pandemic. Building on the success of the event, the intention is to continue to engage the community and in exploring further networking opportunities to support and strengthen the growth of UAE and Sri Lanka.
UAE is home to more than 300,000 Sri Lankans as they all enjoy being part of this wonderful and vibrant place.
