MINA : Some 100 pilgrims of the 3,500 Lankan pilgrims who went for Hajj this year did not get their accommodation in the tent city of Mina when they went for the two-day traditional stay.
Responding to the complaints made by the aggreieved Hajis, Sri Lankan ambassador in Saudi Arabia Packeer Mohideen Amsa who is also performing Hajj this year resolved the issue after talking to the relevant authorities,
Ambassador Amza together with the Chairman and members of the Haj Committee , the officials of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, officials of the Consulate General Office in Jeddah visited accommodation where complaints have been made regarding shortage of space . The ambassador held discussions with service providers and as a result, the administration took action to provide alternative accommodation in respect of two travel groups comprising approximately 100 Hajis.
Apart from the space issue, the Ambassador Amsa also listened to the various grievances of the Sri Lankan pilgrims ranging from the quality of food , transportation issues. The Ambassador has sought a detailed report on such grievances to make suitable representation to the Saudi Authorities to avoid such problems at least in the future.
The pllgrims have paid for the full pilgrimage package which include transport, accomodation and other necessities.
