RIYADH : Lankan Ambassador in Oman,Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad presented his Letters of Credence to Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Al Hadi at the Presidential Palace in Riyadh, the temporary residence of the President recently.
Ambassador Ajwad has been accredited as Non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to Yemen.
The Credential ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in the presence of Foreign Minister of the Republic of Yemen Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak and Chief of the Presidential Protocol Mohammed Haj Mahfoudh as well as other senior officials of the Government of the Republic of Yemen.
Ambassadors of Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Turkey and Mauritania also presented their Letters of Credence to the President of the Republic of Yemen on the same day.
During the audience with President Hadi, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and the People of Sri Lanka to President Hadi and the friendly People of Yemen.
Recalling the long standing historical relations between Sri Lanka and Yemen, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad extended his best wishes for the peace and prosperity of the People of Yemen. He also re-affirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to further elevate cordial relations that happily exist between the two countries.
President Hadi welcomed Ambassador Ameer Ajwad and wished him every success in his new assignment as the Non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Yemen. He also reciprocated his warm greetings and best wishes to the President, Prime Minister and the People of Sri Lanka. President Hadi expressed appreciation for Sri Lanka’s solidarity with the Government and the People of Yemen and reassured continued cooperation in the areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad, has been a career diplomat with 23 years of both bilateral and multilateral diplomatic service. Prior to the current assignment, he served as the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka (Actg.) to Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. He also served as the Director General for the East Asia and Pacific Affairs at the Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry from 2015 to 2017. His diplomatic career entailed serving as the Counsellor (Human Rights) at the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva, Minister (Political) at the Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai, India, and the Second Secretary/Head of Chancery in the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh.

Ambassador Ameer Ajwad holds a Master’s Degree in Laws (LL.M) from the University of Colombo and a Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in Arts from the University of Peradeniya. He was admitted to the Bar as an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1997.
After the conclusion of the credential ceremony, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh held a reception in honour of Ambassador Ameer Ajwad and his spouse Asmiya Ameer Ajwad.
