RIYADH : Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Saudi Arabia Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad presented Letters of Credence as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, to Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz AlSaud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia who received the credentials on behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the King of Saudi Arabia, His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. The presentation of credentials ceremony was held at Al-Yamamah Royal Palace in Riyadh.
A Guard of Honour by the Royal Guard of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was accorded to Ambassador Ameer Ajwad at Al-Yamamah Royal Palace prior to the official credentials ceremony.
Presenting his Letters of Credence to Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Ameer Ajwad conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes from the President of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayake to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz AlSaud as well as the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud. Ambassador Ameer Ajwad pledged his commitment to further consolidate bilateral relations between the friendly countries during his tenure.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan, President of the Royal Court Fahd bin Mohammed Al-Issa, the Commander of the Royal Guard, Lieutenant General Suhail bin Saqr Al-Mutairi and the Deputy Minister of Protocol Affairs Abdul Majeed Al- Shammari were also present during the presentation ceremony.
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad is a career diplomat and a Special Grade Officer in the Sri Lanka Foreign Service (SLFS) with over 27 years of experience in bilateral and multilateral diplomacy including various assignments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka in Colombo and the Diplomatic Missions of Sri Lanka abroad. Prior to his appointment as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia he served as the Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka in charge of Planning, Implementation, & Performance Review of the Ministry including the review of the implementation of Bilateral Treaties in addition to Political Affairs (Africa Region), Consular Affairs and the Emergency Response (Global) Unit of the Ministry. He also served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Sultanate of Oman with the concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Yemen (2019 – 2022). His diplomatic assignments entailed in Singapore as Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner (Actg.) with the concurrent accreditation to Brunei Darussalam (2018 – 2019), Deputy High Commission of Sri Lanka in Chennai, India (2011 – 2015), the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland (2005 – 2009) and the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Riyadh, KSA (2000 – 2003).
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad holds a Master’s Degree in Laws (LL.M) from the University of Colombo and Bachelor’s Degrees in Arts (BA) from the University of Peradeniya and Bachelor’s Degree in Laws (LL.B) from the University of Colombo. He was admitted to the Bar as an Attorney- at- Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 1997. He has authored a book in international relations, titled: “Sri Lanka – Oman Relations: Past, Present and Future.”
