“There are misconceptions surrounding the concept of amalgamation especially in relation to taxation. The legal aspects of amalgamation are vital to understand and analyze the tax implications. There are many relevant case laws in foreign jurisdictions that could be applied in Sri Lanka. We wish to discuss the applications of those case laws in Sri Lanka also in addition to other pertinent areas. We are delighted to have Dr K Kanag Isvaran P.C joining the KPMG virtual assembly to dissect the legal aspects of amalgamation” said Suresh R. I. Perera, Principal – Tax & Regulatory.
Dr. K. Kanag Isvaran is a President’s Counsel, having taken Silk in January 1988. He is a Barrister-at-Law of Lincoln’s Inn (1964), a Graduate in Law from the University of London (1965) and an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.(1966). He was conferred the Degree of Doctor of Laws – LLD (Honoris Causa) by the University of Colombo at its Convocation on the 24th of November 2017. He has completed over 50 years of active practice at the Sri Lankan Bar.
