COLOMBO : – On Sunday, July 7th, at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH) in Colombo, the Korean Embassy in Sri Lanka will spearhead another chapter of the Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship and the K-Pop World Festival celebrating Korea Week 2024. The final rounds of Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship that is set to commence at 2.30 p. m will be graced by . Miyon Lee, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Hon. Harin Fernando, the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs of Sri Lanka and Mr. Kisu Lee, the Kukkiwon Dispatch Taekwondo Master. Following the Taekwondo Competition, the K-Pop World Festival will commence thereafter at 5.30 pm graced by H.E. Miyon Lee, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea and Vidura Wickramanayake, the Minister of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs of Sri Lanka.

Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship
The Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship is one of the major events of the Korean Embassy organized jointly with the Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation every year. This competition is to provide an opportunity for all Taekwondo competitors across Sri Lanka to showcase their mastery in Taekwondo, the traditional Korean martial art.
This year’s preliminary rounds of the 2024 Korean Ambassador’s Cup Taekwondo Championship held over three days from 19th to 21st June attracted more than 3000 participants.
K-Pop World Festival
This K-Pop World Festival is a celebration of Korea’s globally acclaimed music industry with stunning choreography and charismatic performances of K-Pop fans in Sri Lanka. Among over 100 talented applications for the preliminary round, 13 Sri Lankan finalists selected after a deliberate evaluation will show their talents on the stage by performing their favourite songs and dances.
As this ensemble captures the attention of all youngsters passionate about Korean music and dancing, the artists performing on stage will be evaluated by a renowned panel of judges comprised of Mr. Kevin Nugara, Ms. Nadini Premadasa and Mr. Sanka Dineth who have been veterans in the music and dancing industry of Sri Lanka.
Korea Week has been an annual event that compliments the long standing cultural ties between Korea and Sri Lanka and the Embassy believes this endeavour will be a yet another year of deepening mutual understanding.
