COLOMBO : Mrs Karthini Mohamed nee Drahman ( kalapoosanam)Retired Research officer of Srilanka Rupavahni cooperation passedaway this Morning after brieff ilness.She is the beloved wife of Late Akeel Mohamed(Retired secretary of Ministry of power and Energy)loving Mother of Mass Ramli Mohamed. She was a Senior member of Sri Lanka Muslim Media forum.
On hearing the death news !Bacha Hussainmiya reacted from the United States by saying that :”I am very sad to hear that my great friend and well wisher Mdm Kartini Mohamed née Drahman had passed away. I went to pay her a patient visit in Merdeka before I left for U. S. A. Mdm Kartini was a most amazing personality I have known in my life. She particularly nurtured my involvement with Malay research. Especially,
During the 1985 Malay world symposium in which late President J. R. Jayawardena attended as the chief guest, she was a live wire behind the whole event which received world attention through her publicity effort as she was working in Rupavahini at the time. She kept touch with great Malay world personalities like late Tan Sri Professor Hussein Ismail and certainly the Malay world is going to miss her. I shall pen a separate appreciation of her life and times later. My deepest condolences to her son, Ramli Mohamed and all members in her family. Her funeral took place at Jawatte Burial Grounds on Monday evening, on Jan 17.
