NEGOMBO- Provincial free lance journalist who covers Sirasa, Shakthi, Weerakesari was assaulted by the owner of fuel station where the scribe went to cover the shortage of fuel the station on Tuesday,March 1
Speaking to Colombo Times. M Z.Shahjahan said he went to the petrol station since there was a huge crowd waiting for the fuel to get their vehicles topped up.

The journalist said he was manhandled by the owner and some of stooges. “ I went to the petrol station in Negombo, Dalupotha at 8.30 pm on the March 1 to cover the sufferings of the motorists who are running out of fuel. At that time petrol and diesel were not available at the petrol shed and the filling station was closed.”
“While filming it on my mobile phone, the owner and some others attacked me and snatched my phone and the identity card issued by the State Information Department”
“ I went directly to the Negombo Police Station and lodged a complaint and was admitted to the Negombo District General Hospital for treatment.”
Negombo Police Station Headquarters Inspector Rasika Wattegama’s holding the inquiry.
Negombo police have arrested the owner of a petrol station and his son. They are looking for more people involved in the attack.
