COLOMBO : As part of a grant extended by the Government of Japan, seven low-floor buses have arrived at the Hambantota Port, marking the latest step in efforts to strengthen Sri Lanka’s public transportation sector.
Cabinet approval for the acceptance of the buses as a grant was granted in May this year, paving the way for their transfer to Sri Lanka.
The donation is the result of discussions held last year between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Japan’s Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs regarding possible support for Sri Lanka’s public transport sector.
The low-floor buses are expected to improve accessibility and convenience for commuters, particularly the elderly and persons with mobility challenges, while contributing to the modernization of public transportation services. News first
