COLOMBO : SRI Lanka Muslim Congress leader Rauff Hakeem has urged the SRI Lankan government to speak up against Israeli acts of genocide and continued aggression and destruction in Gaza.
In an open letter to the Colombo government, Hakeem pointed out : ” We vehemently condemn the Israeli Zionist regime’s blatant violation of the ceasefire with yesterdays’ shocking airstrikes. Israel’s flagrant resumption of bombings claiming more than 400 lives in Gaza amidst Ramazan, shattering the two-month long ceasefire is strongly condemned. Israel has clearly unilaterally ended the first phase of the ceasefire subverting its development into a the next stage of negotiations. It continues to carry out brutal attacks and ethnic cleansing on innocent civilians with no interest in peace in Gaza and the rest of the region.
We equally condemn the recent spate of attacks by the Israel targeting Yemen, Syria and Lebenon wounding civilians, women and children, unrelenting also towards the aid workers. They continue to block aid to Gaza violating international law.
It is deeply concerning to note US’ support for Israel’s strengthened position, which only intensifies Israel’s acts of impunity. This in turn is severely undermines the region’s ability to de-escalate military conflicts on the path to peace. We also call upon the Arab Leaders to urgently brace unanimity against US policies on the Israeli Zionist regime’s actions and appeal for talks and peace negotiations.
We urge the Government of Sri Lanka to explicitly condemn the Israeli Zionists Regime’s continued violation of international laws and speak up against its acts of genocide and continued aggression and destruction in Gaza. Israel’s threat and destruction to the neighbouring sovereign countries and its violation of the UN resolutions must also be equally condemned. The GoSL should appeal to the Security Council to hold Israel accountable for violating of international laws and escalating regional tensions.”
