COLOMBO – Isipathana College further extended their unbeaten record when they pulled off a bonus-point 37-26 victory over St. Anthony’s College in their Inter-Schools Under-19 Division One League Rugby Tournament fixture played at Longden Place.
The defending champions, having already secured their Super Round spot, led 37-5 at one stage before they made few substitutions during the latter stages, which allowed the Antonians to score four consolation tries and to obtain a bonus point as well.
The consistent Rinesh Silva was the standout player for Isipathana as he scored two splendid tries, made three conversions, and put over two penalties for a match tally of 22 points.
Meanwhile, St. Peter’s College enjoyed their best outing this season as they cruised to a resounding 56-7 victory over Zahira College in a completely one-sided Inter-Schools Under-19 Division One League Rugby Tournament match played at Maradana.
The Peterites ran down nine magnificent tries during a fine exhibition of fast open rugby with scrum half Praneeth Silva completing a rare hat-trick, although last year’s Skipper Sudesh Jayawickrama was in the thick of every move.
Trinity College showed promise for the first time this season as they warmed-up for this week’s Bradby Shield first leg with a thumping 55-10 win over Science College at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy.
The Trinitians sealed the game even before half time as they built up a commanding 24-3 lead and ended up scoring eight tries out of which six were converted by fly half Shan Althaf.
