COLOMBO – In a solemn ceremony, the Iranian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Dr. Alireza Delkosh, participated in the Janaza prayers for the late Iranian President the Late Dr .Ebrahim Raisi at the Maligawatte Grand Jumma Masjid on Friday May 24.
The event saw a gathering of around 2000 worshippers, including officials from the Iranian embassy.
Ambassador Delkosh and his accomplice , Defence Attaché Homayoun Aliyari , were warmly received by the large crowd of mourners who had assembled to pay their respects to the late President.
The atmosphere was filled with reverence as the community came together to honor the legacy of President Raisi.
Before the prayer commenced, the imam of the masjid, Imfaz Rashadhi, delivered a heartfelt eulogy. He praised President Raisi’s contributions to global humanitarian efforts, highlighting the significant impact of his administration’s services in Sri Lanka. Imam Rashadhi particularly noted the inauguration of the Uma Oya project by President Raisi just last month, which has been a major milestone in strengthening the bilateral relations between Iran and Sri Lanka.
The Janaza prayer was a moment of unity and reflection, with Ambassador Delkosh expressing his gratitude for the outpouring of support from the Sri Lankan community. The late President Raisi’s dedication to humanitarian causes and his commitment to fostering international cooperation were themes echoed throughout the ceremony.
The Iranian embassy officials, alongside local dignitaries and the gathered worshippers, offered their prayers for the departed soul, marking a poignant moment of international solidarity and respect.
The ceremony at Maligawatte Grand Jumma Masjid stood as a testament to the deep ties between Iran and Sri Lanka, and the enduring legacy of President Ebrahim Raisi’s leadership and humanitarian vision.
