SHARJAH : Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by 4 wickets in a low scoring but exciting match. This loss means MI will remain at 6th position in the points table (10 points) with a negative run rate of -0.453
MI was invited to bat first by DC after winning the toss. Suryakumar Yadav batted for 33 runs before being caught off the bowling of Axar Patel. All-rounder Axar Patel got 3 for 21 runs while Ayesh Khan displayed top seam bowling securing 3 wickets for just 15 runs in 4 overs. Wickets at regular intervals and rest of MI batsman achieving less than mediocre scores led MI to reach only 129 for the loss of 8 wickets at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing MI’s score DC lost both openers (Dhawan and Shaw) by the 3rd over. Captain Rishab Pant steadied the ship with 26 runs. However, by the 17th over DC was 111 for 6 wickets needing run a ball (19 runs) with Shreyas Iyer and Ashwin at the wicket. A 39-run partnership for the 7th wicket between the two saw DC reaching 132 for the loss of 6 wickets in the 19th over. Shreyas Iyer top scored for DC with 33 runs.
DC are in the 2nd place in the points table (18 points equal to CSK) and together with CSK has secured a position in the playoffs. The next match for the day is between Chennai Super Kings Vs Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi.
