COLOMBO — The fourth Model United Nations Conference of the International Diplomats organization took place successfully in Colombo from 7th to 10th February 2026. Around 150 young delegates from Sri Lanka and more than 10 other countries participated in the event. Held under the theme “Building Peace and Economic Sustainability through Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, the conference provided a high-level platform for diplomacy, global policy dialogue, and responsible AI governance through structured Model United Nations committee simulations. Sri Lanka’s former Minister of Justice, Finance, and Foreign Affairs, Ali Sabry, attended as the Chief Guest and graced the Diplomatic Night on the first day of the conference.
The Ambassador of Nepal to Sri Lanka, Hon. Dr. Purna Bahadur Nepali, participated as a Guest speaker. Ms. Sharmali Jayasinghe, National Coordinator of UNV Sri Lanka, also delivered a special address. Distinguished guests included Her Excellency Dewi Gustina Tobing, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Sri Lanka; Mr. Ivan Ragenes, Counsellor and Deputy Head of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Sri Lanka; and Mr. Oliver Prass, Deputy Head of the Embassy of Switzerland in Sri Lanka.
On the second day, full MUN committee sessions and formal diplomatic simulations were held. On the third day, international delegates visited the Parliament of Sri Lanka and also took part in a city tour of the capital. Throughout the tour, delegates were provided with guidance and explanations about the significance of each location visited. The International Diplomats organization was founded in 2023. Its first conference was held in New Delhi, India, followed by conferences in Goa, India, and Bangkok, Thailand. Their next international conference is scheduled to be held in Dubai in May 2026.
The organization was founded by . Salman Qazi, who serves as the Director General of International Diplomats and Chairman of The Dropsy. The Sri Lanka conference was held under the leadership of Ahmath Sadique, President of the International Diplomats and former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs – Sri Lanka Youth Parliament. The Model United Nations simulation was directed by . Chamaka Samarakoon, Secretary General of the organization and an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.
The organization and coordination of the conference were handled by Mufthy Mueen, Chief Organizer of International Diplomats and former Member of the Sri Lanka Youth Parliament. With the remarkable success of this fourth international conference, the organization’s leadership now looks forward to their next major event in Dubai.
