

COLOMBO – The Indonesian Embassy announced the arrival of KRI Brawijaya 320, one of the newest frigates of the Indonesian Navy, at Colombo Port from 27 to 30 August.
The frigate made a port call enroute from Italy to Indonesia for refuelling and logistical restocking. Sri Lanka was selected as a strategic transit point due to its central location in the Indian Ocean and symbolize friendly relations between Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
KRI Brawijaya-320 is one of two modern frigates acquired by the Government of Indonesia from Fincantieri, an Italian shipbuilding company. The vessel was officially handed over to the Indonesian Navy on 2 July 2025 at the Fincantieri Shipyard in Muggiano, Italy.
During its port call in Colombo, a diplomatic high tea reception was hosted on board KRI Brawijaya 320 on 29 August 2025. The event was attended by the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, along with several Ambassadors and High Commissioners accredited to Sri Lanka, Officials of Sri Lanka Navy, the Indonesian Defence Attaché, and officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Sri Lanka and Maldives, H.E. Dewi Gustina Tobing, together with the commanding officer of KRI Brawijaya-320 is Colonel (Navy) John David Nalasakti Sondakh served as the hosts and warmly welcomed Vice Admiral Banagoda and all distinguished guests. This engagement aimed to further strengthen diplomatic ties and naval cooperation between Indonesia and Sri Lanka.
KRI Brawijaya 320 carries a total of 165 personnel, consisting of 32 Commissioned Officers (Perwira), 74 Non-Commissioned Officers (Bintara), 52 Enlisted Personnel (Tamtama), and 7 Passengers consist of 6 Special Forces (Kopaska), and 1 Medical Officer
