CHENNAI: Breaking the suspense over his political plunge, actor Rajinikanth on Thursday tweeted that he would launch his political party in January. An announcement will be made on December 31.
“Our party with the support of people will capture power and provide a corruption-free and transparent government that will be above caste, creed and religion,” Rajinikanth said.
“Change. We will change everything. Miracle and wonder will happen,” Rajinikanth tweeted.
“If not now, then never,” Rajinikanth tweeted, taking a leaf out of a campaign that his fans have been running over the past few months on the same slogan.
Earlier, after a meeting with his Rajini Makkal Mandram district secretaries on Monday, Rajinikanth said he would announce his decision “as soon as possible”. He spent the past couple of days holding parleys with his close associates and friends, both in person and over phone.
Later, speaking to reporter at his Poes Garden residence in Chennai, Rajinikanth said, ” I have said I will come in time for assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Wanted to undertake a state wide tour. But Covid created a hurdle.”
“If not now. Then never. We will change. Change everything. Change of government and change in politics will happen. Change of government and change in politics will happen,” Rajinikanth. “I am only a small tool. It is the people, who have to usher in the change” Rajinikanth.
“If I win, it will be your victory. If I lose, it will be mine. I appeal to people to support. If I lose, it will also be that of the people,” he said. “I will be happy if my life goes for the sake of people of Tamil Nadu,” Rajinikanth said.
“I have already started work. I have given the responsibility to coordinate to Tamilaruvi Manian. The day has come to change the date of TN. We will change. Change everything” Rajinikanth. “I will not go back on my words,” he said.
Rajinikanth thanked his Rajini Makkal Mandram district secretaries for placing his health foremost, more than his political entry.
Arjun Moorthy, who has been appointed as chief coordinator, said, “We are ready with our plans.”
On Monday, November 30th, after meeting the district secretaries of his fan club, Actor Rajinikanth said that he would reveal the decision on his political foray as soon as possible.
“In the meeting with district secretaries, they shared their thoughts and I shared mine. They have assured to stand by me in whatever decision I take” he told media outside his Poes garden residence.
The November 30th meeting with his unified fan club is his first publicized in-person event, that has taken place following the Covid-19 pan-India lockdown in late March.
About a month back, Rajini had dismissed a statement (that was rumored to be his) which was doing the rounds on social media, claiming that he was quitting politics. However, he agreed that some contents of the statement pertaining to his health were true and that he would hold discussions with the functionaries of his unified fan club and inform people of his political stance.
The letter which was doing the rounds and was said to be ‘leaked’ mentioned that, the actor’s doctors had expressed reservations over Rajini getting into active politics, as he had undergone kidney transplant and owing to the fact that there was no vaccine for Covid-19 yet.( Times of India)
