NEW DELHI : Condemning the attack on protesting farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha demanded strict action against Union Minister of State (MoS) for Home Ajay Misra’s son, Ashish Mishra, and others involved in the incident. The farmers’ union also demanded dismissal of Ajay Misra from the post.
Ashish Misra allegedly ran over protesting farmers with his car in Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday. The incident claimed the lives of eight persons, according to Additional SP Arun Kumar Singh.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha, the umbrella body of over 40 farmer unions that is spearheading the agitation for the scrapping of the Centre’s three farm laws, demanded imposition of murder cases on the MoS and his people immediately, and added that Ajay Misra should be dismissed immediately from his post.
The farmers’ union has also demanded a probe into the incident by a sitting judge of the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, in the aftermath of the incident, farmers are set to stage a protest outside district magistrate offices across the country on Monday from 10 am to 1 pm, as per the farmers’ union.
Responding to the incident, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait said, “The incident in Lakhimpur Kheri is very sad. This incident has once again exposed the cruel and undemocratic face of the government. To what extent the government can fall to suppress the peasant movement, the government and the people sitting in the government showed again today.”
“But the government is forgetting that we did not bow down to the Mughals and Firangis for our rights. The government should not test the patience of the farmer further. The farmer may die but is not to be afraid,”the BKU leader added.
He reiterated the SKM’s demand that the UP government should register murder cases against the accused and added, “If the government does not come to its senses, not a single BJP leader will be allowed to leave the house.”
Rakesh Tikait also appealed to the farmers to maintain peace and said that “the victory will be of the farmers”.( INDIA TODAY)
