

COLOMBO: As a part of its community outreach programme, Bangladesh High Commission in Colombo sponsored exercise books for school children in Yatiyantota, Kegalle.
This community welfare project was conceived by Hon. Rajika Wickramasinghe, MP from Kegalle.
Under the project, the High Commission has distributed 4000+ exercise books among three schools in Yatiyantota namely, Garagoda Muslim Maha Vidiyalaya, Garagoda Sinhala Maha Vidiyalaya and Degallassa Bharathi Tamil Vidiyalaya. The programme took place on Saturday, Aug.19 at the KG/Dehi/Garagoda Muslim M.V. where the teachers and students and parents of the three schools were present.
J.M.R.P. Jayasinghe, Kegalle District Secretary and other dignitaries including the Zonal Education Director were also present.
Speaking at the event, Bangladesh High Commissioner Tareq Md Ariful Islam mentioned the project as a humble token of the excellent relationship between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka and as an effort to enhance people-to-people contact and educational collaboration between the two nations. This support was extended following the ideals of the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who cared greatly for children, he added.
In her remarks, MP Rajika Wickramasinghe thanked Bangladesh High Commission for supporting her initiative and asserted on continuing this kind of community initiatives in the future.
