COLOMBO : An office assistant attached to the Department of Immigration and Emigration has been arrested for allegedly aiding in the creation of a forged foreign passport for notorious organized crime figure Kehelbaddara Padme.
According to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the suspect was taken into custody yesterday (12) afternoon at the Immigration Department’s office premises.
The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into a passport forgery and trafficking ring.
Following his arrest, the suspect was presented before the Aluthkade No. 01 Magistrate’s Court and has been remanded until June 19.
Authorities have confirmed that this arrest follows the recent detention of three other suspects, including an assistant controller at the Department of Immigration and Emigration, in connection with the same passport forgery operation.news first
