COLOMBO : Ifthar parties are being hosted at several places in different parts of the island by individuals, social groups and private sector and public sector organizations as a gesture of goodwill that helps bridge an understanding between communities living in this island.
It helps the participants to gather and greet one another during the month of Ramadan where Muslims fast from dawn to dusk.
This year, we witness several such parties after a lapse of two years of Covid and are hosted with a sense of piety, human values and respect.
This year also witnessed a new concept of non-Muslim individuals and organizations hosting such parties to ensure such values that pave the way for peaceful coexistence among all ethnic groups in Sri Lanka . Open Ifthar parties at the Independence Square and iftar parties at Buddhist temples are clear examples that indicate that people are creating a better place to live in this fair isle.
However. We also could see a fraction of the people complaining that such hosts should help the deserving people instead of hosting such iftar parties. Such critics little realize that all those people are holding such parties after giving their charities to the poor which is their priority!
Let us make sincere efforts to rebuild our nation with love , affection and understanding among all communities.
A peaceful Sri Lanka will give our young generation a better environment and definitely a better future!
