DUBAI: Super 12s – England’s destructive bowling performance restricted West Indies (WI) for only 55 runs in 14.2 overs. Chris Gayle was the only WI batsman to reach double digit (13 runs). Moeen Ali and Tymal Mills bowled well in the power play to pick up 2 wickets each (bowling figures of 2 for 17 runs in 4 overs). The latter part of the show was stolen by Adil Rashid who bowled impressively to pick up 4 wickets for just 2 runs off 2.2 overs.
England chasing the low score, were made to struggle to win by the West Indian bowlers. England were at one point 39 for four wickets with some exemplary bowling and fielding efforts by the West Indies. Akeal Hosein bowled amazingly for the Windies in the power play to pick 2 wickets for 24 runs (off 4 overs). However, 55 runs were just not enough for the West Indies to create an upset. England opener Jos Buttler (24 runs not out) and captain Eoin Morgan (7 not out) comfortably took England to a magnificent win by 6 wickets with 70 balls left in the innings.
England tops the Group 1 points table at the end of the matches held today with 2 points and a significantly higher run rate than Australia ( 2nd position with 2 points). Player of the match was England’s Moeen Ali for his amazing bowling during the power play. (RZ)
