COLOMBO : Hajj is celebrated to commemorate the 4,000 years of history of Prophet Ibrahim. My best wishes to all Sri Lankan Muslims who are celebrating Hajj on Thursday, June 29.
The day of Hajj is a day that emphasizes sacrifice. Today we are reminded of the bravery of Prophet Ibrahim to give his life and sacrifice his son to stand firm on the principles he had adopted. The day of Hajj teaches us the lesson of making sacrifices to rebuild the country in the current phenomena.
The final Hajj, which was attended by Prophet Muhammad, the leader of the world Muslim community, who came as the last prophet among the Jewish, Christian and Islamic communities descended from Prophet Abraham, is also remembered today. Accepting his message of world peace, people from many parts of the world gather in Makkah for Hajj. On this auspicious day, I pray to the almighty God that the people of Sri Lanka and all the people living in the world live in unity and peace.
