COLOMBO : In response to the persistent demand of the protestors for the past 31 days , Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa on Monday , May 9, announced his decision to resign from his post.
His resignation comes in the midst of calls by the public for the Prime Minister to step down over the failed economy of the country.
The protesters are also calling for his brother Gotabaya Rajapaksa to resign from the post of President over the prevailing crises in Sri Lanka.
Following the resignation, his cabinet stands dissolved.
