NEGOMBO ; Four persons, including a prison guard, mother, son and his lover, were arrested in Negombo for drug peddling on Saturday,July 3.
The arrest was made following a tip-off from the public. The arrested suspects were 25-year-old prison officer Mudiyansalage Sabun Rasmika from Soysawatta, Kochikade, who was in possession of 7,290 mg of heroin, while his mother, Subashini,49, had 4200 mg of heroin and Sabun Rasmika’s agent Manikkam Kumar Sindhuja had Rs. 70,200, which was collected from the drug sales.
On interrogation, the police tracked Ramesh Kumar from Mirigama who had come to purchase drugs from the gang.
The raid was conducted on the advice of Negombo Senior Superintendent of Police Saman Sigera. Inspector Karunanayake Police Sergeant Bandara led by Negombo Regional Criminal Investigation Division Officer-in-Charge Sampath Dissanayake with a team of constables, Chandana, Nimesh, Dissanayake, Kumar, Bandara, Wikramapala and female police constable Pavithra took part in the operations .
