


COLOMBO : On the morning of 19 May 2026, the Embassy of Viet Nam in Sri Lanka, in coordination with the Sri Lanka – Viet Nam Solidarity Association, solemnly commemorated the 136th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (19 May 1890 – 19 May 2026).
The ceremony was held in a warm and dignified atmosphere of solidarity and friendship, attended by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka, the President of the Sri Lanka – Viet Nam Solidarity Association, representatives of the Colombo Municipal Council, and many Sri Lankan friends.
At the event, participants reflected on the life, great revolutionary career and immense contributions of President Ho Chi Minh to Viet Nam’s national liberation cause, as well as the enduring values of peace, solidarity and international friendship that he left for future generations.
In the afternoon of the same day, Ambassador Trinh Thi Tam held a working meeting with the Mayor of Colombo. The two sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the implementation of the project to expand and upgrade the Ho Chi Minh Space and renovate the surrounding area of the President Ho Chi Minh Statue at the Colombo Public Library. The Embassy also transferred the amount of USD 50,000, which had been symbolically presented by the State Audit Office of Viet Nam to the Mayor of Colombo during the State Visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to Sri Lanka on 7–8 May 2026.
The implementation of the project will contribute to preserving and promoting the noble values and image of President Ho Chi Minh and the country of Viet Nam among the people of Sri Lanka, while further strengthening the longstanding traditional friendship between the two countries.
