ADDALAICHENAI- The South Eastern University of Sri Lanka’s second Vice Chancellor Dr. A.G. Hussain Ismail passed away at his residence on Wednesday (13) in Dehiwela. He is 78 years old at the time of his demise.
As a well-known Educationist from Beruwela, he rendered yeoman services to the educational development of the down-trodden masses. He was responsible for a large number of developments in the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka during his tenure as Vice Chancellor during the period 2003- 2009. He served as a Lecturer USIM University of Malaysia and Malaya University.
Dr. Hussain Ismail has been serving as President of the All Ceylon Muslim Educational Conferences since 2005 and has been contributing a large number of educational programs for the welfare of the Muslim community. He also served as a member of the Public Service Commission for a term. Being an ardent social worker of his native place Beruwela, he has been successfully running Ishathul Islami Orphanage as the Chairman of the Organization at Muliya Malaii Beruwela.
His funeral was held at Mulliyamala Jumma Mosque burial grounds on Wednesday. He leaves his wife Naheema and three sons.(Photo Ruzaik Farook)
