COLOMBO — Former Speaker M.H. Mohamed’s 104th birth anniversary commemoration meeting held at the Duncan White Auditorium , Ministry of Sports, Colombo on Sunday June 15.
It was held under the patronage of Chairman of the Sri Lanka Islamic Center Hussain Mohamed ,while Dr. Ruvaiz Haniffa delivered the welcome address.
The Keynote Speaker Former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya praised M.H.Mohamed’s servicesc to the people of this country and he said the late Mohamed helped Buddhist temples in Borella and Maradana electorate and he rectified the shortcomings in the temples. He never allowed communalism among the communities and he established good relations with Muslims and Buddhist Communities.
Chief Sangha Nayaka and Chief of Sri Lanka Mahabodhi Society Venerable Banagala Uptissa Thera said M.H.Mohamed was not an outsider he was very closely associated with the Sinhala Community and he won the election with a majority of Buddhist votes. He visited all the temples and helped them ..
Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof, Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa and All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama President Ash Sheik M.I.M. Rizvi Mufthi also praised M.H.Mohamed for his yeoman services
Buddhist , Hindu , Muslim and Christian religious leaders along with family members and representatives from Muslim Organizations were also present.
Former Western Provincial Councilor Shahul Hameed Mohamed proposed the vote of thanks.
