
COLOMBO : Sri Lankan Foreign minister Ali Sabry left for Tehran on Tuesday evening on May 21, leading a delegation to attend the funeral of Iranian President the late Ebrahim Raisi who martyred on Sunday in an air crash.
The president died with his foreign minister and seven others who were traveling in the fatal helicopter ride.
Sabry is accompanied by Marjan Faleel and additional secretary to ministry of foreign affairs U L M Jouhar.
Speaking to Colombo Times while going to the airport , Minister Sabry said he was going on this sad journey on a request made by the Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremsinghe who wanted Sri Lanka to take part in the bereavement and share the sorrows with the Iranian people who had suffered an irreparable loss.
Marjan Faleel told Colombo Times he had really suffered the effects of the fatal tragedy which took the life of the Iranian president Raisi. “ I attended the Presidential Inauguration ceremony in August 2021 when The late Raisi took over the presidency and now I am going for his funeral , “ Faleel said in a melancholy mood .




The world has lost a good statesman, Faleel concluded .
