COLOMBO : The Disaster Management Department announced on Thursday,June 10, that significant rainfall has not been reported from anywhere of the island during the last 24hours and the high river water levels reported in some rivers such as Kelani , Kalu , Attanagalu Oya and Maha Oya in South Western region have been dropped down considerably.
The risk of flooding in those rivers are now considerably receding. The remaining flood waters in low lying areas in those river basins will also be gradually draw down within the next few days. Therefore, the early flood warnings issued by the Hydrology and Disaster Management Division of the Irrigation Department from 03.06.2021 to 06.06.2021 are hereby withdrawn.
Total deaths due recent floods and earth slips has increased to 21 dead , 5 injured and affected 172,132 persons from some 43,390 families in 10 districts.
