NEGOMBO: For th 11th day in sucession, fishermen who are badly affected by the increase in prices of kerosene took to the roads on Monday August 29
Thousands of fishermen and their families gathered on all four sides at Periyamulla railway crossing showed their anged against the price hike in kerosene.
They were chanting slogans such as “ Mr President, have mercy on the plight of the fishermen and our family, don’t make false promises, we need an urgent solution.”
Reverend Farther Sumit Roshan who participated in the protest, said that this problem did not arise today. The fishermen families have gathered here in large numbers as no satisfactory solution has been found to their problems even after months of raising their voices.
“ They are unable to bear the massive increase in kerosene prices. They are poor fishermen who go to the sea every day to work and eat. He said that a solution should be found from the side of the government to make their business happy.
The fishermen who took part in the protest said that even though the cost of living has increased, what we are asking is to lower the price of oil so that we can go to the sea and do business. The struggle cannot be organized by dividing the fishermen.
