COLOMBO: Finance Minister Ali Sabry has been sworn in as the Minister of Justice, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said today.
His new appointment is in addition to his existing portfolio of the Minister of Finance.
The lawmaker previously served as the Justice Minister in the Cabinet which resigned on the 3rd of April with the escalation of anti-government demonstrations across the country.
The following day, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa appointed him as the Finance Minister, along with three other ministers, citing the maintenance of the parliamentary affairs and other functions of the country legitimately and stably until a full Cabinet is appointed.
After tabling the International Monetary Fund’s report on Sri Lanka to the parliament on April 05 in his capacity as the Finance Minister, Sabry tendered his resignation to the President, which was turned down. The lawmaker accordingly continued to serve in as finance minister.
