COLOMBO: Lifting of the suspension of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFS) has been announced with immediate effect, according to a letter intimated from the FIFA council on Monday Aug 28
The copy of the letter is appended : “ Dear Sir,
We would like to inform you that the situation of the FFS was submitted to the attention of the Bureau of FIFA Council (hereinafter; the Bureau).
On this occasion, the Bureau was reminded that on 21 January 2023, it decided – in accordance with art. 16 par. 1 of the FIFA Statutes – to suspend the FFSL with immediate effect due to flagrant violations of the FIFA Statutes. It also decided that the suspension would be lifted only once the following conditions had been met:
Official and written exemption from the current national sports law to be legally granted to the FFS/Sri Lankan football in order to guarantee the recognition and implementation of the newly adopted FFSL. Statutes (22 September 2022)
* The FFSL administration to be fully in charge of the FFSL’s daily affairs until a new FFSL Executive Committee is elected because the elections of 14 January 2023 were not recognised by either FIFA or the AFC
* Elections of a new FFSL Executive Committee to be organised as per the newly adopted FFSL Statutes (22 September 2022), especially by secret ballot and for a four-year mandate
Furthermore, the Bureau took note that on 24 July 2023, an extraordinary gazette was issued by the Ministry of Youth & Sports in Sri Lanka, confirming that: the office-bearers would be elected for a four-year term:
the position of general secretary/CEO would be filled by appointment;
•the elections of a new FFS Executive Committee would take place based on the statutes adopted by the FFSL General Assembly on 22 September 2022; and an interim three-person committee representing the FFS administration had been designated to carry out the daily administrative and other required activities of the FFSL, as well as to assist with the elections.

Additionally, the Bureau observed that on 14 August 2023, an extraordinary FFS General Assembly was held at the request of a two-thirds majority of FFSL members. In this context, an electoral roadmap was adopted for elections to take place on 29 September 2023
Moreover, the extraordinary FFS General Assembly appointed the members of the Appeal Committee and confirmed most of the members of the Electoral Comm instance) who had been appointed at the FFSL General Assembly held on 22 2022.
Under these circumstances, the Bureau decided on 27 August 2023 to lift the susp the FFSL with immediate effect. “
