COLOMBO : Reputed accountant, lecturer and the well-experienced Ahadiyya tutor Fawaz Salahudeen’s maiden book, “The Role and Identity of Sri Lankan Muslims”, titled under the heading “Marakkala Kolama will be launched at the auditorium of the National Library in Colombo 07 on Wednesday 26th February 2025.
This event is organized by the Islamic Educational Centre of Colombo 02 (Kompannaweediya). The proceedings get underway at 4:00 p.m. under the chairmanship of As-Sheikh Irshad Shahabdeen.
Interestingly, Fawaz an MA, an MBA holder in Education has shown his extraordinary trilingual skills and talent by writing this book in all three languages English, Sinhala and Tamil and revisiting the History of thousands of years of Sri Lankan Muslims.
The writer has meticulously and splendidly summarized the Golden History of the Moors through the popular Kolama Traditions of Sri Lanka with Special Marakkala and Thambi Kolama truly dedicated to Muslims of this nation.
“A picture is worth a thousand words” but the 100+ pictures that are constructed, reconstructed and illustrated vividly depict the contributions that Muslims have made for the unity and integrity of this beloved isle since time immemorial. The author has aptly included the archeological and other evidences to prove how Muslims made their contributions in nation building. This book is affectionately dedicated to his beloved wife late, Marhooma Fathima Siyana Zackariya, a dedicated teacher of English Language at Ilma International School in Colombo. Fawaz who had worked in different countries such as the Maldives and Oman as a fully pledged accountant is attached to the Colombo Office of the Oman Airlines He has deeply explored the legacy of Sri Lankan Muslims in a different perspective using (visuals) invaluable photos, pictures and illustrations via his Marakkala Kolama. Undoubtedly, scholars, intellectuals, historians, undergraduates, and people of all other walks of life should possess a copy of this rare gem that is available in all main three languages of the nation.
The book Review will be made by Professor Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri attached to the Department of History of University of Colombo and the Head of the Department of Geography of University of Colombo, Professor Fareena Rusaik. The President of KIEC, M. Razeen Mohideen, Secretary, Farzan M. Haniffa and Member Mushab Mazahim are scheduled to address this gathering. The Introduction of the Author will be made by Hannan Hussain of the University of Colombo.
