COLOMBO : Dr Rezvi Sheriff, 77, who is popularly known as the ‘Father of Nephrology ‘ passed away on Monday evening on March 30 while he was treating a patient at a private nursing home in Colombo .
His funeral will take place in the afternoon after Asar prayers on Tuesday , March 31 at the Kuppiyawatte Muslim Burial Grounds. His janaza will be kept at his residence at Fairfield Gardens (Turner Road), Borella, Colombo
He is the beloved husband of Ameena Sheriff, father of Dr. Mrs. Habeeba Hafeel ( Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital ), Dr. Rikaz Sheriff ( Western Province Health Ministry) and late Omar Sheriff.
Professor Sheriff was an esteemed alumnus of Zahira College and Royal College.
Mohamed Hussain Rezvi Sheriff is a retired Sri Lankanacademic, nephrologist, and physician. He served as director of the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, senior professor of medicine, and head of the Department of Clinical Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo. He was a senior professor of medicine at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University from 2018 until his retirement.[1] He is a consultant physician and nephrologist at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.[2] He is also the founder and owner of Western Hospital.[3]
Western Hospital was founded in1984 by Professor Rezvi Sheriff (MBBS, MD, FRCP, FRACP, FRCPE, FCCP, FNASSL, FSLCGP), who is widely regarded to be the ‘Father of Nephrology’ by the medical community in Sri Lanka. Nephrology is the branch of medical science that deals with diseases of the kidneys.
