COLOMBO: Amidst the people’s struggle that has laid bare a corrupt and dreaded ruling family regime, the Muslims of Sri Lanka today observe the holy day of Haj synonymous with ‘sacrifice’. We deeply reflect upon the boundless sense of this concept of Prophet Ibrahim(Abraham)’s and Prophet Ismail(Ishmael)’s
supreme submission to God Almighty, on this holy day.
On Eid-ul-Adha this day, Sri Lankans face a critical struggle for justice and accountability. A struggle which would make an indelible impact on our country’s history, at a time while we face a deepening economic crisis, loss of lives, persisting shortage of foreign exchange, fuel, food and power black outs. Our people have made many sacrifices.
We fervently pray for mercy from the Almighty, to deliver us from evil and ease the hardships of the people of Sri Lanka. Let us also pray for ethnic unity among communities and democratic strength to prevail.
