COLOMBO : The Health Ministry reinstated Dr.Shafi Sihabdeen of the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital who was sent on compulsory leave following of allegation of illegal sterilisation operations.
According to the health ministry. Shihabdeen will be paid his salaries during the times of his forced leave.
Sihabdeen served at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital and was arrested over allegations on the alleged sterilisation of women without their consent.
He was later released on bail by the Kurunegala Chief Magistrate.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in July, 2019 informed the Kurunegala Magistrate’s Court that investigations carried out so far had not proven that Dr. Mohammed Shafi Shihabdeen had blocked the fallopian tubes of mothers, amassed wealth in an illegal manner, or maintained links with a terrorist organisation.
