COLOMBO- The incessant rainstorms that unleashed its fury on the country during the past several days has triggered high floods in the low–laying areas of Megaoda, Kolonnawa Grama Niladhari division, which is located on the eastern boundary of the city of Colombo.
Most parts of the Kolonnwa U.C. area is located on the floodplains of the Kelani river, and about 70% of this land area is said to be below average sea level within these high-density low-income settlements.
The Muslim Foundation for Culture & Development (MFCD), a non-profit humanitarian organization which caters to all Sri Lankans, irrespective of race, religion, or ethnicity in collaboration with Kolonnawa Divisional Secretariat has distributed 96 Dry Food Hampers to severely affected families at the Megaoda Kolonnawa Grama Niladhari division on 17th November 2021. The rations were distributed at the premises of the Megoda Kolonnawa Grama Niladhari Office.
Mr. Hanan Hussain – Chairman MFCD Sri Lanka, Mr. Panaraman – Additional Divisional Secretariat Kolonnawa, and Mr. H.M. Rohitha Senevirathne, Grama Niladhari – Megoda Kolonnawa graced the occasion.
