


COLOMBO — Distinguished sportsman and Rugby National Player and Coach Tony Amit was felicitated by his loving students and friends at the Gihan’s Beach Resort, Dehiwala on Saturday August 16.
Tony Amit is a distinguished sportsman and coach from Zahira College, Colombo, who excelled in rugby, cricket, and athletics between 1964 and 1968.
He captained the CH & FC rugby team in 1977 and represented Sri Lanka in both cricket and rugby, including playing against international teams such as Paris University, London Welsh, and Japan. As a referee from 1981 to 1992, he officiated at prestigious tournaments including the ASIAD in Japan (1984) and Sri Lanka (1990), and the Hong Kong Sevens (1991).
He also served as a Chief Delegate and assessor at global events. As a coach, Tony led CH & FC to multiple major championships between 1987 and 1994. From 1994 to 1996, he was Sri Lanka’s national rugby coach, touring countries such as Malaysia and Italy for World Cup qualifiers. He played a key role in referee training and development, conducting workshops internationally, including in Japan and Thailand.
The chief guest of the ceremony Zahira College Board of Governors Chairman Fouzul Hameed and guest of honour Principal of the Zahira College Trizviiy Marikkar praised Tony Amit’s contribution to Zahira College Rugby and Cricket and also thanked the organising committee to came forward to felicitate great sportsman Tony Amit.
The Organising Committee Chairman’s Nazeem Ghaffoor and Ashroff Ghany presented a token of appreciation to Tony Amit. Also year 86/87 Rugby Team Players presented a token of appreciation to Tony.
