COLOMNO :The Colombo Fort Magistrate,Thilina Gamage today ordered to cancel the existing bail granted to Abeyratne Suresh Priyasath alias Dan Priyasad on Friday,June 17.
This cancellation was effected on bail had been granted to Dan Priyasad in a former case where he was accused of hate speech targeting a minority community in Sri Lanka.
In his Order, the Magistrate stated that since granting bail in 2014, the suspect Dan Priyasad has violated the bail conditions on multiple occasions. Thus, the Hon. Magistrate ordered that bail be cancelled as per sections 14(1)iii and 14(2) of the Bail Act.
Dan Priyasad was further remanded till 01/07/2022.
Dan Priyasad was arrested by the CID for attacking the peaceful protesters at Minagogama and Gotagogama on 09th May 2022. Bail was denied to Dan Priyasad on the last occasion pending the deliverance of the order on Bail Cancellation, Friday.
Senior Attorney-at-Law Shiraz Noordeen together with Pasan Weerainghe and Irsath Mohamed appeared for the virtual complainant of todays bail cancellation application. Senior Attorney-at-Law Jayantha Dias Nanayakkara appeared for the suspect Dan Priyasad and OIC Crimes – Fort Police was present in courts.
