JEDDAH :The newly appointed Consul General – designate of Sri Lanka in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia Justice M.T. Mohamed Laffar assumed duties at the Consulate Geneal of Sri Lanka in Jeddah Mondayy (11th May)
His assumption of duties was marked by a simple ceremony organised by the staff of the Sri Lanka Consulate General in Jeddah. In his address to the staff of the Consulate, the Consul General-designate emphasized on the importance of maintaining an efficient and effective consular and employment welfare service by the Consulate towards Sri Lankan nationals residing in Jeddah and the broader Western Region of Saudi Arabia. He also stressed the importance of renewed efforts by the Consulate to enhance trade and investment ties between Sri Lanka and Saudi Arabia.
Justice Laffar has had a distinguished career spanning over 35 years in the judicial service, serving in various capacities, most recently as the Acting President of the Court of Appeal. He had also served as the Secretary to the Judicial Service Commission, and a visiting lecturer at the Sri Lanka Law College. Reflecting his strong commitment to minimizing delays in the judicial system, he set a record in 2007 by delivering 120 orders and judgments in a single day.
Consul General-designate Laffar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Peradeniya and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Open University of Sri Lanka. He is also an Attorney-at-Law of the Sri Lanka Law College. He is a past pupil of Vivekananda National School, Colombo, and Al Mubarak National School, Malwana.
