COLOMBO : A resident of Colombo – 02 lodged a written complaint with the police headquarters against YouTube vlogger Indika Totawatte for his defamatory remarks against the Islamic religious beliefs, Quran and Prophet Muhammed on Thursday,Oct 5 in Colombo.
Alleged vlogger made these defamatory remarks on 29th September 2023 in his YouTube channel- Sathya Vlog- in reply to a senior Thera who praised Islam as a religion.
The Complaint was made against the vlogger Indika Totawatte under sections 120, 291A, 291B of Penal Code and 3(2) of ICCPR act. Which are non bailable and could be arrested without a warrant and also subjective to rigorious imprisonment for a period of two years.
The plaintiff was accompanied by attorneys Shainaz Mohamed and Farzan Muhammed as advised by the senior Attorney Shiraz Noordeen, met the IGP and handed over a letter along with the complaint acknowledgement receipt issued by the police headquarters.
IGP’s office assured that law of land will be implemented without any delay.
