COLOMBO : The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) passed a resolution unanimously on Monday, July 19, to extend its fullest support to the members of the Muslim community in its wards to perform their sacrificial obligations to mark the Hajj Festival which falls on Wednesday, July 21.
Tuesday’s CMC session was chaired by Colombo Mayor Rosy Senanayake at the Town Hall Colombo.
The Wakfs Board said on Monday, July19, that slaughtering of Qurbani animals can be done in designated places throughout the island except in the mosque premises.
Speaking to Colombo Times, M.T.M.Iqbal ,deputy mayor of Colombo said that the resolution moved by Councillor Mohammed Ramzee and seconded by him was unanimously moved by the house at its session on Monday
“ Now our officers are busy issuing permits for the Qurbani slaughter which could be done only on Wednesday and Thursday, 21 and 22 respectively. “Friday 23 is a Poya Day and we will not issue any permits for slaughter om this day ,” he added.
Iqbal said that the animals could be slaughtered at the CMC slaughter house in Baseline Road or in a tidy place where there are drainage facilities approved by the Veterinary officials of the council. He also said the municipal would ensure that animal waste are properly disposed under hygienic conditions and the operations are carried out according to the health guidelines of the health authorities.
